The Growing Food Crisis in Northern Gaza & Issa Saliba's Story

Dear Brother & Sisters in Christ,

We are writing to you with an update on our ongoing efforts in Gaza, sharing the story of one of the individuals we have had the privilege to help, Issa Saliba. Issa is an Architect student studying at the American University in Jordan and a recipient of a scholarship from CMG. Your generous support has enabled us to continue our vital work, including water and bread distribution, amidst the challenges faced by the people in this region.

Issa Saliba's Journey:

Here I am, Issa Saliba, recounting the harrowing yet hopeful journey I’ve endured in Gaza. Celebrating my 20th anniversary at the Holy Family Church, the memories of survival between death and life remain vivid. The sound of bullets, the cries of fear, and the sight of lifeless bodies are imprinted in my mind. Yet, amidst this turmoil, I felt the presence of Christ, guiding and comforting me.

In the midst of hunger and thirst, I clung to hope and faith. After over 180 days of relentless hardship, I received the opportunity to travel to Egypt. The journey to the Rafah land crossing was fraught with danger. Tanks, bullets, and the constant threat of death accompanied us. Yet, with each step, I felt Christ’s presence, urging me not to be afraid.

The journey was not just a physical passage but a spiritual one. The noise of military vehicles, the fear of losing friends and family, and the uncertainty of survival were ever-present. However, we persevered, driven by our faith and the prayers that never left our lips.

Upon reaching the crossing, the sight of simple, everyday items like apples, peaches, and tomatoes brought a profound sense of joy and normalcy. These small blessings reminded us of the life we longed for and the resilience within us.

As we approached the Egyptian hall, the weight of leaving Gaza behind was heavy. Yet, the prospect of a new beginning in Cairo brought hope. We were welcomed by kind souls who shared their food and warmth, a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity and faith.

We have launched a new water project aimed at providing clean drinking water to those in need in Gaza. Access to clean water has been a significant challenge, and this project has already proven to be instrumental for the local community. Your continued support enables us to bring this vital resource to those who need it most.

In recent weeks, the situation in the north of Gaza has become increasingly dire for the Christian community. Food supplies have dwindled significantly, leading to a resurgence of starvation and malnutrition. Many families are now relying heavily on canned food to survive. This crisis underscores the urgent need for continued support and solidarity from the global community.

Your support enables us to bring stories of hope and resilience like Issa’s to life. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and support our ministry. We ask you to lift up our brothers and sisters in Gaza in prayer. Pray for an end to this conflict and for more food to become available to those in need. Your prayers and support are vital in these challenging times.

Blessings,
